Was Illumi Singapore the Best Family Night Out of 2024?

With the 2025 year-end holidays slowly creeping up on us, my wife and I were scrolling through our photo gallery, looking for inspiration for this year's family outings. We stumbled upon a folder from early this year filled with glowing, happy faces – our trip to Illumi Singapore 2024. The event might be over (it ended on Feb 2nd), but the memory is still so vivid that I had to share it. If it returns, you'll want to be ready.

A Wonderland of Lights for Little Ones

For a parent of a five and three-year-old, finding an activity that genuinely captivates both of them is a massive win. Illumi was exactly that. It wasn't just a few fairy lights strung up; it was an immersive world of dazzling, larger-than-life installations. My daughter was completely mesmerised, treating it like a real-life fairytale kingdom. Meanwhile, my son was just ecstatic, running around and pointing at the giant glowing animals and colourful tunnels. It was a sensory feast that made for incredible, IG-worthy family photos without even trying.

Pro-Parent Tips (If Illumi Returns!)

Based on our experience, if you see this event pop up again, here are some hard-earned tips from one parent to another:

  • The Pre-emptive Toilet Trip: This is Rule #1 of any family outing in Singapore. The last thing you want is an "I need to pee!" emergency in the middle of a crowd, miles from the nearest restroom. Go before you enter the main area. Trust me.

  • Weather-Proof Your Crew: It’s an outdoor walking event, and this is Singapore. Need I say more? One minute it’s clear skies, the next it’s a downpour. A couple of cheap ponchos or a foldable umbrella in your bag is a non-negotiable lifesaver.

  • Go Early, Go on a Weekday: If you can swing it, avoid the peak weekend crowds. Going on a weekday evening gives the kids more space to explore without you worrying about them getting lost in a sea of people.

The Verdict

Illumi Singapore 2024 was a core memory for our family. It was a magical, well-organised experience that appealed to all ages. We're keeping our fingers crossed that the organisers bring it back for the 2025/2026 season. If they do, don't hesitate. It’s one of those special outings that reminds you how wonderful it is to see the world through your children's eyes.
